“Fused Glass Art in the Classroom” workshops starting in September 2009

Fused Glass Workshop in Your Classroom

The basic idea behind fused glass is that beautiful and artistic creations can be done in a kiln.  Contemporary fusing methods involve stacking — layering thin sheets of glass — often using different colors to create patterns or simple images.

 Workshop Objectives

The primary objective of the workshop is to initiate the student to the technique of fused glass.

Other objectives include fostering artistic development, manual ability, and curiosity.

Workshop Details

The project selection and the content of the workshop are adapted to the age group of the students.

Each workshop includes an information session on the history of fused glass, a presentation on the art of working glass, demonstrations of techniques like cutting and firing glass in a  kiln.

The extent of manipulation of the glass to get to their final creation depends on the age group.  Older children will be offered more complex projects.

Workshops are adapted from preschool to grade 12.

The duration of the workshop varies from 1.0 to 3.5 hours, depending on the project.

The price depends on the project selected — from $10 to $20 per student including all materials and the use of tools.

About Safety

Safety rules and precautions are taken during the entire workshop and non-toxic materials are used.
